Yongxing Suspension Bridge crossing the Zengwun River is the longest suspension bridge in Taiwan. Covered in the romantic color of purple, the bridge gives a soft contrast to the lush green mountains, and the bridge lights shining from dusk until dawn are a beautifying element to the landscape. This walkway is for bicycles and pedestrians only, where visitors can take a leisurely stroll without constantly dodging cars.
The bridge was once destroyed by the onslaught of a typhoon in 2007 and later repaired after three years of restoration. In the central section of the bridge, there is a viewing area where people can relax on the benches and appreciate the beauty of the surrounding landscapes, which change throughout the four seasons. As the river levels were low during the dry season, most rocks are exposed, while the river is a raging torrent during the wet season. On weekends, street vendors line up at both ends of the bridge to sell popular snacks and local produces such as star fruit. In case you want to make the best of your visit: the prestigious Xuankong Temple is just nearby, so don’t miss it out!
