No.68-2, Jianan, Guantian Dist., Tainan City 720, Taiwan (R.O.C.)
During the Japanese Colonial Era, a Japanese civil engineer Yoichi Hatta designed and built an irrigation system and reservoir in southern Taiwan that turned the formerly barren plains into a granary. Nowadays, it is known as Wushantou Dam — one of the oldest dams in Taiwan. Located in the Guantian District of Tainan, the dam is a popular weekend destination, where locals camp by the water, cycling around the dam and go canoeing on the tranquil and shimmering lake. Next to dam, there is structure that replicates the Temple of Heaven in Beijing, while the size is six times smaller than that of the original one. Standing on the dam overlooking the imposing temple, you will be granted a nostalgic scene as if in an ancient Chinese drama.
There is a lot to do here, from the water park that allows children a fun way to cool off to quaint Japanese architecture that tells the history of the dam. When cherry blossoms are in bloom, a gust of wind will bring a blizzard of white, pink and pale yellow petals to earth, drawing in a significant number of visitors. Myriads of outdoor activities are available here, including horse riding, archery, barbecue, earth-oven barbecue and many more!
