Tatung University is not well-known around the world. Even a large number of Taiwanese haven’t heard of it. However, in Asian Chinese families, almost every kitchen is equipped with a green Tatung electric cooker. And the Tatung University, located in downtown Taipei on Zhongshan North Rd., is exactly established by the century-old Taiwan enterprise. Because the university has put its emphasis on cultivating talents for electronic engineering, there is an experimental factory and a business office behind the campus. The founder's former office and residence is also preserved here, whose Western-style exterior and Washitsu (Japanese-style rooms) attract quite a few visitors. Occasionally, there are small art exhibitions taking place in the house. Even if you do not encounter one, you can still have fun strolling casually or seeing the Tatung Boys hidden in corners.
But the most conspicuous building should be the European-style Shan-Chih Hall, which you will notice as soon as entering the campus from the front gate. At its front stand six spectacular granite pillars. Along with the dome symbolizing the solemn spirit of education, the beautifully curved archways, and the corridors forming a straight line, Shan-Chih Hall has attracted a host of Taipei residents coming here to shoot their pre-wedding photos. What’s more, the university happens to stand on a road full of bridal shops. Every holiday there are always quite a few photographers taking photos for couples dressed in wedding gowns and suits.
