Suao Harbor

If you are driving from Taipei to Hualien, Suhua Highway is the only way to go. The shimmering ocean and glittering sun will accompany you as you move further along the way. Suao Harbor is the last stop you will probably make before officially entering Hualien, whose second-to-none location makes it an important hub for offshore fishing in the east. It is also a natural, sheltered harbor that is known for being a great spot to devour fresh and inexpensive seafood.

There are two other harbors in the proximity: Nanfangao to the south and Beifangao to the north, while Suao Harbor was once a competitive international commercial port that supported the external trade of Yilan plain.

Known as one of the eight wonders in Yilan, Suao Harbor opens up to the vast ocean beyond, creating a stunning backdrop. Lookouts and parking lots along the Suhua Highway offer some incredibles panoramic views of the harbor. Many come to capture the beauty with their cameras, while others carry their rods and sit by the water, waiting for the fish to bite.
