Shanghainese Pan-Fried Soup Dumpling is in the vicinity of Kaohsiung Medical University and specifically caters to the students. Born and bred in Shanghai, the owner moved to Taiwan with her husband and brought along the nostalgic taste of home as well. From a humble street hall, Shanghainese Pan-Fried Soup Dumpling has grown into a much-loved eatery on Rehe Street.

There are only three items on the menu: pan-fried soup dumplings that come in three different portions, clear noodle soups with fried bean curd as well as xiao long bao. All pan-fried soup dumplings are freshly prepared on site. Sprinkled with a pinch of sesame, these pan-fried soup dumplings have a crispy lattice coating: juicy on the inside and crispy on the outside. As small as they seem, the filling is not to be underestimated. The perfectly seasoned pork filling is not too lean and not too fat, making just about as tasty a meat as you can get, while rivers of hot, flavorful soup will burst out in your mouth and leave you craving for more. The vinegar and spicy condiments are available to adjust the taste to your liking and will add to the complexity of these delicious goodies. The fried bean curd absorbs the very essence of the clear noodle soup, whose warmth is comforting and mentally soothing. Carefully wrapped and sealed, the xiao long bao are juicy pieces of pork and just the right amount of soup in a thin layer of dough — undoubtedly some of the best around.
