Rainbow Military Dependents` Village

Rainbow Military Dependents’ Village is a vibrant community adorned with colorful artworks, all of which are the creation of a 100-year-old man known as Rainbow Grandpa. Since 2008, Rainbow Grandpa has been painting the village, starting with his own house and gradually expanding his art to cover the entire neighborhood. His paintings feature a diverse range of subjects, from aircraft and pandas to birds and anything else that catches his eye in the newspapers.

Each wall is adorned with creative and unique designs, and visitors to the village can even enjoy the lively atmosphere created by a street performer known as the ""Iron Man"" who sings and entertains the crowd. The village offers ample parking nearby, convenient access to public transportation, and a recommended visit duration of 20-30 minutes.

Rainbow Village was initially slated for demolition as part of a government program to replace military dependent’s villages throughout Taiwan. However, the surge in artistic and tourist interest prompted the government to preserve the village. The outpouring of support, including thousands of petitions and heartfelt messages from residents, led to the decision to save the village. Today, Rainbow Village stands as one of the most popular tourist attractions in Taichung.
