Located in the Suao Township of Yilan, Nanfangao is the largest tied island in eastern Taiwan, whose second-to-none location makes it an important hub for offshore fishing in the east. It is also a natural, sheltered harbor that is known for being a great spot to devour fresh and inexpensive seafood. The pristine white Neibi beach gently shelving in the shape of an arc is perfect to explore the striking erosion landforms in the surrounding. If you happen to be a photography enthusiast, go to the lookout at the 108 km mark of Suhua Highway for a stunning panoramic view of Nanfangao.

The coastal landscapes of erosion and deposition here is one of a kind. In this tranquil harbor sit a number of fishing ships, with rows of houses standing side by side against the deep blue ocean and the lush green mountains. Seafood restaurants serving fresh catches straight from the harbor are always the best. Pick any one of them on the main street and treat yourself to an enticing feast of seafood. After making your tummy nice and full of loads of goodies, have a leisurely stroll along the Neibi beach or Tofu Cape — and that’s how you should plan a perfect one-day trip to Yilan.
