National Revolutionary Martyrs' Shrine

Martyrs’ shrines are basically for commemorating soldiers sacrificed on battlefield. However, since Taiwan has not experienced warfare for near 50 years, martyrs’ shrines in Taiwan are usually set in memorial for the one lost during WWII and Chinese Civil War. These shrines could be seen in cities across whole Taiwan, and many of them are equally neighboring to Confucian temples. National Revolutionary Martyrs’ Shrine in Taipei becomes a popular attraction for its hourly ceremony of guard mounting. When guards are on their position at the front gate, they stand still just like the one in front of London Buckingham Palace; but once the guard mounting is initiated, their actions are firm and full of strength. For duration of the process about 30 minutes, visitors gradually follow the guards’ march towards the shrine from gate and spectate the ending rifle exhibition drill.
