Weng's Tea Shop

Prior to the invention of pearl milk tea, bubble tea had been the most fashionable beverage all over Taichung. Thirty years ago, Weng’s Tea Shop was one of the most popular bubble tea shops in Taichung and the place where youngsters often hung out on weekends. It is said that pearl milk tea was invented by Chun Shui Tang Cultural Tea House in Taichung in 1980s. Since then, modern tea houses and tea shops have mushroomed and replaced most of the traditional tea houses in Taichung. However, Weng's Tea Shop, located in the end of Yizhong Street, has survived the difficult times. In the shop where the original bars, tables, chairs and decoration are kept, old Taichung residents can recall the profound flavor and memories of those good old days.

The shop is famous for not only bubble tea, but also oolong dried tofu (dried tofu flavored with oolong tea), which is so tasty that visitors would regret if they do not order one. There are also many popular snacks like deep-fried tofu, edamame (green soy bean) and thick toast.
