No.2, Sec. 1, Dongda Rd., East Dist., Hsinchu City 300, Taiwan (R.O.C.)
During Japanese-ruling period, Hsinchu City Glass Museum served as a guesthouse or ballroom for Japanese royal members and high officials on their inspection visits to Taiwan. After Taiwan was recovered, it was changed to accommodation for military officers. The architectural feature of the museum is that it combines European-courtyard design style and Eastern elegant and austere installation. Thanks to this cultural fusion of East and West, the overall building enriches with a classical romantic image.
Hsinchu is the center of glass-manufacturing industry since the age of Japanese governance. The focus of local industry, however, has slowly shifted to glass art because of changing time and market. So, right now, this museum introduces all sorts of information regarding Hsinchu glass art, including its primary product characteristic, raw material, manufacturing instrument and production procedure.
Except for exhibition area and souvenir store, there is also a demonstration area for glass manufacturing and family interaction area. At night, outdoor installation artworks under colorful lighting unfold their different beauties other than in daytime.
