Taroko Archway

Every visitor to Taroko Gorge will make sure to take a photo with the landmark Taroko Archway. As the gateway to Taroko Gorge, it makes a perfect introduction to the amazing adventure about to begin. It might look like any other archway you find in Chinatowns around the world, but what lays ahead is unmatched the world over.

In 1960, the Central Cross-Island Highway was officially opened for traffic, and the Taroko Archway built in the same year serves as a reminder of the early days of the road's construction. As local tourism continues to boom these days, Taroko Archway has become the most photographed landmark in Hualien.

Try not to stand in the middle of the road and hold up traffic when taking pictures with Taroko Archway. Always watch out for cars.
