No.2, Nanmen Rd., West Central Dist., Tainan City 700, Taiwan (R.O.C.)
The Tainan Confucius Temple (台南孔廟), located in Tainan, has a history of over 350 years and is the first Confucius temple and school in Taiwan. In the past, Confucius temples were not only places for worship but also served as schools for children and as venues for the imperial examination. The Tainan Confucius Temple (台南孔廟) has a serene and elegant environment, and visitors can enter the main hall for a fee of 40 yuan, while the surrounding areas are free to access. On weekends, there are tour guides providing explanations, and students seeking academic progress and success can come to pray for blessings. The temple grounds offer interactive games to help visitors learn about history in a more relaxed manner.
The temple's architecture reflects respect for Confucius, with features such as the absence of Door Gods' portraits on the gate door and the presence of 108 doornails, symbols of the 108 stars in heaven. The absence of couplets on the door further distinguishes it from later-constructed Confucius temples in Taichung or Kaohsiung. Despite being somewhat smaller in scale, the Tainan Confucius Temple (台南孔廟)'s three-section compound and rich history make it a must-visit attraction in Tainan. Even for those who may not be deeply interested in history and culture, the surrounding area offers a variety of delicious local snacks, such as stir-fried instant noodles at Bro Bao's Instant Noodle and dishes served at Jinfu Fortune Stir-fried Eel Experts and Fuji Bawan.
