The Zhushan Sky Ladder (竹山天梯), once one of the only two suspension bridges featuring ladders in the world, spans 136 meters with 208 steps and a height difference of around 20 meters. It was constructed to facilitate access to Taiji Canyon. The journey begins at the entrance, leading through bamboo forests and ascending countless stairs, passing through rock formations, and crossing the historic Earth God Temple, before culminating at the renowned Green Dragon Waterfall (青龍瀑布). The cascading water merges with the off-flow of numerous other waterfalls in the canyon, creating a breathtaking sight.
The round trip covers approximately 4 kilometers and takes about 3 hours. The initial descent at the start of the trail makes for an easy stroll, but the return trip involves a steep uphill climb. For those who prefer not to walk the entire way, shuttle services are available for a fee, with ticket discounts applicable.
While the route offers stunning views of the mountain ranges and the canyon, it's advisable to have good physical stamina before embarking on this journey to avoid disappointment due to exhaustion. Nonetheless, the Zhushan Sky Ladder (竹山天梯) is highly recommended for its awe-inspiring natural beauty.
Notice
- There are around 1000 steps from entrance to Taiji Canyon. Make sure you have enough energy to counter it.
- Because there is no public transport to the Zhushan Sky Ladder, we recommend you hire one of our friendly, English-speaking guides to take you there. They can also point out the giant rock along the canyon that looks just like a human face, with eyebrows, a nose, cheeks and even tears!
- Currently under renovation, it is not yet open.>
